RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship
Introducing the Basics
This 2-day entry-level qualification covers the background knowledge needed to take a small boat safely to sea, for activities such as diving, sea angling, sea kayaking or other watersports. Sailors and motor boaters who want to take more part in the running of a vessel and who aspire to skippering, would benefit from this course. It is also an ideal accompaniment to our RYA Cruising Level 2 course or the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course.
This classroom-based course covers the following topics:
- Charts, publications and terms
- Electronic navigation
- Rules of the road
- Weather forecasts
- Passage planning
2 days (16hrs)
None, just an interest in boating or related activities

By the end of this short but informative course, students will have an understanding of basic chartwork and an awareness of the seamanship skills and safety issues associated with going afloat.
